The 2014 elections in El Salvador were marked with a political scandal and a political victory. First, a left-wing guerrilla commander during the Civil War won the presidential election. Concurrently for the first time a former president, and current campaign manager to ARENA was facing public trial for misappropriation of millions of dollars of international donations. This scandal caused irreparable damages to ARENA’s credibility and sealed the victory for FMLN (Farabundo Marti’s National Liberation Front).
In this convoluted and unique political environment, this photo essays follows a young middle-class Salvadoran during the 2014 election day, highlighting the voting process, and his interaction with party militants and election staff.
